What is a CT?

Computed tomography (CT), is noninvasive procedure that uses special x-ray equipment to produce cross sectional images of the body. Each cross-section represents a slice of the area being image. These slices provide valuable diagnostic and treatment information for physicians, surgeons and other healthcare providers.

Why should I get a CT?

CT scans are useful because they allow soft tissues of the body such as the heart, internal organs, blood vessels and the brain, to be imaged. The most commonly performed CT scan is of the brain - to determine the cause of a stroke, or to assess serious head injuries. Other uses of a CT scan include: To detect abnormalities in the body, such as tumors, abscesses, abnormal blood vessels, etc, when they are suspected by symptoms or other tests.
